War of the Worlds

Why is it that aliens are always (with the exception of E.T.) portrayed as evil creatures and always feared and despised? Why is it we always expect the worst of them? How can we be so certain that aliens are not in fact far better than us? How can we know that they don’t live in perfect societies where they don’t kill each other in the name of God, or money. It seems to me we simply want some sort of scapegoat to turn our attention away from our own evil nature. In fact, how can we be certain that we are not the most evil planet of the Universe? How do we know that if aliens ever do visit they won’t simply want to help us become better? Why should they necessarily want to destroy us? And what’s with the looks, man…Why is it that they should look all freaky and pale (or green!!)? For once I would like to see a film where aliens visit and they look totally gorgeous and they are kind and want to help us improve our societies. I mean really, what is it with this superiority complex of ours? A little modesty would not harm us. And by the way, we should not be needing aliens to mirror our evil nature back to us. We should be doing this ourselves. If self awareness and self improvement are not our goals, then what the hell are we doing here? Honestly, I’m thinking of moving back to where I came from…

(I just hope the American government does not locate this blog and has me arrested for espionage...even though, come to think of it, that would be kind of exciting!)
